Legs

Overview: busy weekend. Status: sore legs.

Auckland is a hilly sort of place. I knew that already - I've been here a month and I'm not _that_ unobservant. What brought it home was trying to cycle up one of those hills on my way home. Yep, that's right, on Friday I splurged on a nice new bike and rode it home.

Riding in traffic is going to take some getting used to, pretty nervewracking, and like I said some of the hills here are just flaming mental. I found it all a bit traumatic really, so on Saturday I decided to ride into work and back after the sofa gets delivered, just to get more of a feel for it.

So I get back, pretty tired, on Saturday afternoon and then remember that I've entered the Auckland marathon for Sunday. No, not the full marathon, just a 1/4 of it... along with about 30 other people from work and 12000 other kiwis. Good fun, and work paid for a big BBQ afterwards with all the Poweraid anyone could want.

Might do the 1/2 next year. 1/4 was pretty OK, and I ran slightly quicker than the last one (RunLondon, ages ago now, hello Kerensa!) without doing any actual training in the last few weeks.

Happy and all, but sore legs today.
Take it easy!

woo hoo go will - 1/4 marathon runner! hope your legs are feeling better. Saw off Kirsten this morning - very sad but I know you'll be happy soon when you meet her in the early hours Thursday morning! Hope sofas are divine and well done on buying a bike, you'll soon master all those hills.

Take care and thanks for blogging.

Love Emily
